It Started With a Jar of Green Mold
The first attempt at growing mushrooms at home was an unmitigated disaster. A batch of PF Tek grain jars, carefully sterilised over an entire weekend, came out of the pressure cooker looking perfect — golden rye grain sealed in clean glass. Within four days, every single one was coated in bright green Trichoderma mold.
The problem wasn’t the effort — it was the information. Forum posts contradicted each other. YouTube videos skipped the critical inoculation steps. What existed online was either too advanced, too vague, or buried inside threads that assumed experience none of us had.
After months of trial, error, failed blocks, contaminated jars, and eventually — finally — a beautiful flush of oyster mushrooms pinning on a properly pasteurised straw substrate, one thing became clear: the guides we’d spent weeks searching for didn’t fully exist.
“The mushroom kingdom deserves the most carefully written, honestly researched guides on the internet. That’s what we set out to build.”
MyceliumNest launched with a simple commitment: every guide would come from direct personal experience, every health claim would link to peer-reviewed research, and every product recommendation would reflect genuine testing — never affiliate commission rates.
Four years, 50+ published guides, and over 12,000 monthly readers later, that commitment hasn’t changed. Neither has the curiosity that started it — because the more you learn about fungi, the more there is to learn.
Our Editorial Standards
These aren’t aspirational values — they’re the actual rules every piece of content on this site is held to before it goes live.
Evidence-First
Every health or scientific claim links directly to PubMed-indexed research or published mycology literature. We never write “studies show” without showing which study.
Written From Experience
We write only what we’ve done. Growing guides come from actual grows. Equipment reviews from equipment purchased and used. Supplement reviews from products tested for 30+ days minimum.
Editorially Independent
Commission rates never influence rankings. We have removed affiliate links when products failed our standards. Our #1 recommendation always reflects what actually performs best — not what pays most.
Medically Honest
We never use “cure”, “treat”, “heal”, or “prevent” for health conditions. Mushrooms may support certain functions — we say “may” and cite the trials. MyceliumNest is not medical advice.
Open to Corrections
Found an error? Email us with a source and we’ll review and update within 7 days. Corrections are noted transparently in the article. Getting it right matters more than getting it published fast.
Foraging Safety First
Every foraging guide includes explicit safety warnings, look-alike species, and the instruction to verify any wild harvest with at least two independent sources. We take this responsibility with absolute seriousness.
Everything Mushroom, Nothing Else
MyceliumNest is a focused site. We don’t cover general wellness, herbs, or supplements outside the fungal kingdom. This focus means every guide is written by someone who lives and breathes the subject.
Our five content areas are: home mushroom cultivation, growing equipment, functional mushroom supplements, wild foraging & identification, and mushroom recipes.
